Philadelphia native, David Cabello started on a path many of us have blazed - going off to college with the intention of developing a skill set he could use in the workforce, expanding his "networks", developing personally, and establishing kinship/friendship with classmates that could result in life long connections.

Soon and very soon, David began to feel as though he wasn't being challenged to assess the information his courses provided with an analytical approach employers would appreciate. He felt he was being taught to assimilate into a culture that did not embrace his own. And with that feeling, he chucked deuces to Shippensburg University after 3 semesters in search of an alternate path.

David along with his brother Aaron, created Black and Mobile after working for other established food delivery services. He quickly realized there was a void that needed to be filled, allowing Black-owned restaurants to reap the same benefits as chain restaurants by providing door-to-door service via an online platform.
Many small businesses are not making the profit margins what would enable them to pay the marketing commission fees, delivery commission fees, processing fees , delivery tips and sales taxes PER ORDER that current delivery services charge. This is were Black and Mobile is helping black-owned restaurants reach new and existing customers they would otherwise struggle to capture and retain.
Prior to meeting up with David in Philly, we had a long, passionate yet and humorous discussion on the phone about his life and his passion. I vividly remember him repeating, "I dropped out of college to help Black-owned businesses."
I stumbled upon Black and Mobile on Instagram shortly after it's launch. I distinctly remember bookmarking this pic. They had roughly 800+ followers but I BE KNOWIN' and I just knew this was a service that was very much needed and this company was going to take off. Thirty-thousand followers and multiple press mentions later, I knew I was right!
I did not meet Aaron, the second half of this dynamic duo. I got the impression he is the calmer brother, which is common among twins. One is more outgoing than the other, yet in talking to David both he and Aaron are eager to grow Black and Mobile, hire more messengers, while relying heavily on social media to promote the businesses they partner with. They want to win and they want to see their partners win.

The original plan David and I had for this interview was to go on a delivery ride-a-long. Due to the Kick-starter campaign David had for Black and Mobile, deliveries were on hold as he was in the process of rebuilding the website and creating the Black and Mobile app to accept food orders.
David was able to coordinate interviews with two of his latest restaurant partners, one being Denise's Delicacies located in North Philadelphia. Make sure you subscribe so you will be notified when my second interview with David and his other partners is available.
Brushing past an extremely long line of customers waiting for delicious deserts, owners Keisha Davis and Cynthia Roberts generously invited us to their "cake room" to film.
Denise's Delicacies, also known as Cakes by Denise, is well-known throughout Philadelphia and the tri-state area since 1990 as a a premier wedding cake provider. Denise passed the business onto her nieces who have continued the tradition of not only creating specialty cakes but also operating as a full-service bakery providing buttery pastries, fresh breads, delicious doughnuts, cookies and all-natural pies made using only the finest ingredients.

Faithful patrons were not made aware of the sale of Denise's Delicacies that took place earlier this year. Operations have been flowing as if Denise never left. That is because Keisha and Cynthia are earnest in their promise to continue in Denise's tradition of providing 5-star customer service and decadent desserts masterfully created and sweet-tooth satisfying.
David, Keisha, and Cynthia honored me with their story and now I share that story with you. They discussed what it means to work in and serve the community they love while sharing lessons about entrepreneurship.
