Meet CMU's Executive Leadership Academy Inaugural Cohort

January 30, 2019

It was reported by Bloomburg.com, there were three black CEOs running Fortune 500 companies as of September 2018. As of May the same year, there were only 24 women serving as CEOs. Despite many corporations issuing public pledges to be more inclusive in their hiring practices, the lack of diversity is persistent.

Without a doubt, the C-Suite (the highest-level executives in the form of CEO, COO, and/or CFO) has a significant absence of Black men and women, however, there is no lack of qualified professionals. The Executive Leadership Academy, a signature program of the The Advanced Leadership Initiative in Pittsburgh, has selected its inaugural cohort - local professionals, primed for seats in the C-Suite. This class of 24 represent the Pittsburgh area's best of the best in terms of Black Executive Excellence.

Selected from a pool of 60, the finalized group of applicants will be paired with experienced executive coaches, executive mentors, and word-class academic instruction from Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business for 8 months. The Executive Leadership Academy will prime the cohort to escape middle management and prepare them for the C-Suite.

The inaugural class includes:
